Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce is in the process of dissolving.

Altavista chamber thanks community for its support

For decades, the Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce served local businesses by holding events to celebrate their openings and foster networking, offering programs to help them grow, being their voice and always promoting their success. At the same time, the chamber provided information about the community to visitors and those looking to relocate. Through the efforts of staff and volunteers, the chamber, as true in many small communities, planned events to bring people together, create excitement in the community and enjoy the many attributes in Altavista.

Sadly, the Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce is in the process of dissolving. The Board of Directors voted earlier in December to close the organization after seeing a waning interest in the chamber’s activities and going through unsuccessful efforts to build a board for 2024.

It is a regretful ending for an organization that brought much good to the community and always wanted the best for Altavista and the surrounding area. However, while the dissolution is unfortunate, this is a time to be thankful for the businesses, industries and individuals who have been chamber members, sponsored and participated in events and supported the organization. You not only supported the chamber; you supported your community.

The chamber board also extends its gratitude to the staff members for their commitment and hard work for the community, and to the volunteers who served on the board and committees, and planned and worked events like Uncle Billy’s Day, Thank Goodness It’s Friday and the Christmas Parade.

The chamber board is working through the closing process. That includes developing a list of frequently asked questions with answers, including about membership, dues and train station rentals, that will be posted on the website, altavistachamber.com. You may also reach out to the chamber by email at executivedirector@altavistachamber.com.

To everyone who was part of the Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce these many years, thank you!

Wishing you and the Altavista community the best in 2024.

If you renewed your membership at any other time, it is unclear what we are legally able to do. We will update this as soon as counsel advises.

If you received a renewal bill, please DO NOT pay this and disregard.

At this time, train station rentals are on hold until a partner organization takes over this role.  Please check back here for updates as information is made available.

If you have currently have a confirmed/paid train station rental reservation for 2024, this will be honored. Please review the rental bookings calendar and your email confirmation for all details.

The chamber of commerce and any funds associated with it, are governed by its by-laws and state and federal guidelines. With support of counsel, remaining board members are following the legal obligations set forth.
